The AGM we had to have

If the success of an organization can be measured by the number of people who attended the Seminar/AGM/Dinner then AILDM is travelling very well indeed. This year’s event was even better than last.

The seminar was packed out as they just kept rolling in to listen to three very interesting and successful members, Dean Boone, Andrew Davies and Debbie MacDonald. The passion for their work and for the industry as a whole was clearly evident.

The AGM was like no other. People often fall asleep at an AGM…..but not at an AILDM one. Outgoing President and Great Enchalada, Chris Miller ran the meeting without aplomb but with plenty of humour and banter. Was this because he was handing the Presidential tiara to Arthur, the Serious, Lathouris?

Changes to the constitution were unanimously agreed to.
1. Increase the number of National Council (Board) members to 14 - This allows us to have active “boarders” in other states without reducing the representation of the administrative group in NSW.
2. Allow communication of mandatory notifiable issues by email. Eg Elections, AGM notification etc. Postal notification will still be used if email is not available or a member prefers that method.
3. Abolition of discriminatory references eg “he/she” replaces “he”

Over forty people attended the dinner and there was a real buzz about the Bowlo.

It was a great day for those who attended and a great day for AILDM. We’re growing in numbers but also in our professionalism. We’re constantly trying to improve the services offered to members and our profile in the industry.

If you have a specific skill which you think may be of benefit or if you have some spare time give us a call or email administrator@aildm.com.au or president@aildm.com.au Thankyou all for your support and for helping take AILDM to where it is today.

Seminar 3 Announced

SUSTAINABLE GARDENS - SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS - SUSTAINABLE CITIES

The Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers (AILDM) presents the third in its popular Global Warming – The Landscape Challenge seminar series.

AILDM has brought together three sustainability gurus from three separate spheres to present their individual experiences and their sustainable philosophy. The speakers will be providing thought provoking insights into sustainable solutions for global warming from the residential perspective, the business perspective and the urban / city perspective.

Josh Byrne the popular ABC TV Gardening Australia personality is an environmental scientist with a passion for green gardening. He believes that many of the pressing environmental challenges that confront our cities and towns can be tackled by gardeners if given the opportunity. Water shortages, nutrient pollution, organic waste management, urban biodiversity and clean food production are all issues that fall well and truly into the realm of gardeners.

Dr Jane Tarran, Senior Lecturer and Course Director, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Technology Sydney will talk about the importance of developing and managing the urban forest to provide cleaner, healthier and safer urban environments and an effective mechanism in the fight against climate change.

Frouke de Reuver from the Dept of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) will explain how we can advantage our business, ourselves and our community and ultimately the planet by running a sustainable business.

Stormwater Management Workshops

The workshops provide a unique opportunity for stormwater managers across NSW to learn first hand about the future direction of stormwater management and to provide advice and input to a range of documents to support this new direction.

The Department of Environment and Climate Change and Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority are developing a comprehensive suite of stormwater management guidelines for local government, other stormwater managers and stormwater consultants. This workshop will not only provide you with the latest stormwater management information, it will give you an opportunity to comment and offer your thoughts on a range of consultation draft guidelines.

BUZZDM AT THE AILDM EXTRAVAGANZA

If the success of an organization can be measured by the number of people who attended yesterday’s (27th Nov) Seminar/AGM/Dinner then AILDM is travelling very well indeed. This year’s was even better than last.

Was this because he was handing the Presidential tiara to me, Arthur the Serious?

An organization is only as good its members. The board are all volunteers who are giving back some of what they’ve received in the past.

Please consider how you might be able to help us and AILDM continue its forward progress. A few hours on a specific task, attending functions like yesterday’s or even constructive criticism of our activities will help us.

If you have a specific skill which you think may be of benefit or if you have some spare time give us a call or email administrator@aildm.com.au or president@aildm.com.au

Thankyou all for your support and for helping take AILDM to where it is today.
