Nextgen and AILDM

The nursery and garden industry in NSW is full of enthusiastic, successful young people who will shape the future of the industry. NGINA has now launched a similar forum to that initiated by the Victorian Association, and formed the NextGen group for 18 to 35 year old to meet, exchange ideas and work on their leadership skills

AILDM and Nextgen will be working closely together to improve communication between our members and will support each other’s activities. This can only help to improve our knowledge and professional standing.

NextGen is a unique opportunity for young people from NGINA to form invaluable networks, learn more about the industry and to have fun.

BACKYARD AND GARDEN DESIGN IDEAS MAGAZINE

‘Backyard’ and ‘Good Garden Design’ magazines offer AILDM members the opportunity to showcase projects without charge in a glossy national publication. This is a great marketing opportunity for individuals and AILDM. The more quality work readers view and the more times they see MAILDM after designers’ names the better it will be for all of us. A professional photographer will capture the best aspects of your project and these go to print with copy provided by the designer and edited and enhanced by the editor, Karen Booth.

Budding journos are also encouraged to write interesting articles about some aspect of garden design. Your name appears with the article and again in the back page credits with your phone number or website address……..a great opportunity and great marketing.

Interested members should contact president@aildm.com.au

We’ll forward your details on to the editor.

INDUSTRY CO-OPERATION

The AILDM National Council continues to explore ways of encouraging greater cooperation with other industry bodies. Recent meetings with Universal Magazines, TAFE, LCA and AIH and contact with AILA regarding Climate Change have been promising. We will continue to create meaningful links with these and other groups for the benefit of our members and the industry in general.

A Fine Fellow Indeed

A grey-bearded Member of AILDM

Was awarded the title of FAILDM

This title extended for services rendered

as his poems and emails assailed ‘em.

(Did they do it to shut him up?)

Congratulations to Arthur Lathouris who was awarded the title of “Fellow” at the AGM.

AILDM NATIONAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN AWARDS 2008

It’s time to start thinking about your awards entries for next year. We’re in our 4th year now and the number of entries has increased each year. The categories are similar but with a couple of changes which we think will allow more members to enter. We’ve incorporated the Residential $120,000 + category with the $60,000- $120,000. That category is now Residential $70,000+.

The exiting news is a new category for designers who’ve been out of college/university for no longer than three years. This category will give less experienced designers the confidence to enter their work.

More information will soon be available on the website and forum and an Awards email will be posted within the next two weeks.

We look forward to seeing your entry.

AILDM STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION

Students from a number of TAFE colleges and Universities entered our 2007 Student Design Competition. Once again the standard showed that there are some very talented designers about to enter the industry. Some very clever solutions and outstanding graphics kept the judges debating until the eventual winners were decided. Congratulations to all entrants. Winning entries will be showcased in an issue of Backyard and Garden Design Ideas early in 2008.
