A Full House at GES 2010

By the time you reed this, the Exhibition Centre at Rosehill Gardens will be all but fully booked and that is nearly 5 months out from the event! This must indicate that the degree of interest and support for GES 2010 is gathering momentum. Where to next – we might need a larger venue? Sorting out who goes where on the floor plan is almost harder than a wedding seating plan – only joking!

A few different things that you will notice at this year’s Green Expo Sydney:

  • It’s in a bigger hall along at the other end of the Rosehill Gardens complex
  • Access is easy and visitors will actually have free parking within the racecourse and walk through a tunnel to the Exhibition Centre
  • We’ve extended the trading hours on the second day and will only close at 4 pm
  • Online registration is anticipated
  • Stands have different coloured carpeting to that of the aisles and they have improved fascia boards for an overall classier presentation
  • Fusion will be improved and this year will see the Media being encouraged to nominate their favoured new plant and product
  • The Network Night will recognise all the award winners
  • The Seminar Space called ‘GES What Forum’ is to feature several short, interesting, topical, (not boring), punchy (1015 minute maximum) talks. Debra Templar will be the host/MC of this program and we are confident that there will be enough interest to pull the crowds!

I think one of the most exciting things from an organising committee’s point of view is seeing how the stands all come together on the bump in day. Comments last year from the media, judges, industry advocates plus the usual sceptics, were that the standard of the displays was absolutely brilliant. That means such a lot and is a credit to our nursery and garden industry. It is very important to put on a good show. GES is not a trade/market day. It is a huge leap forward from the NGINA monthly get togethers as we are showcasing what our industry has to offer to a much wider than normal audience.

Speaking to a few of this year’s GES exhibitors, they are already planning to create something special on their stands. The challenge is on! There are many who want that Best in Show trophy. Listening in on the comments and discussion between the judges of Fusion and the stands last year was most interesting. They were mightily impressed and had a very hard job on their hands to pick the winners because the standard of presentation was excellent.

GES is designed to attract visitors from across the board in our widely diverse horticultural industry. It is not just for retailers – it’s got something for everyone and there will certainly be plenty of interest for AILDM members. Note these dates in your diary now: 25 and 26 August and aim to be part of the largest green industry trade event in Sydney.
