Looking for plants in “low shade”? (meaning areas where low branches cast heavy shade) A plant to survive in low shade and cope with root ridden soil as a tall ground cover can be slim pickings dear reader ……. But plants among the impatiens tribe are accommodating as they are interesting like the Parrot Beak Impatiens. Bright flowers crowd stem bases and catch the eye especially when elevated in planting spaces when the view line converges low around the plant where the flowers are..
e.g. above retainer walls come to mind.

Sub tropical Africa bears much in common with warm temperate coastal frost fee eastern Australia and there are various coloured flowers to be had. They form close to 1m mounds, which will connect nicely around that tall Grevillea, Casuarina or Eucalyptus where nothing seems to do well. A little summer watering being the only requirement of this undemanding “doer”.
