Stop the Commercialisation of National Parks

Public Rally to Stop the Commercialisation of National Parks

Help Stop the Commercialisation of National Parks
Speak up today or our parks will pay; only days to go!

The NSW Government has adopted pro-tourism industry recommendations that will put our national parks at risk. Weaker national park protection laws are being developed to encourage the spread of damaging private cabins, lodges and ‘eco-resorts’ in our national parks.

The NSW Government has not asked the community if they want national parks developed!  Environment groups want a stronger nature tourism industry in NSW and more people enjoying our parks. This can and must be achieved without park development.

Unless we act now a new law will be passed allowing increased development in national parks. This new encroachment into the NSW parks system will be enacted in March this year.  We must act now!!

Come learn more about tourism in national parks from experts including Dr. Martin Taylor (Protected Areas Policy, WWF-Australia), Prof Ralf Buckley (International Centre for Ecotourism Research, Griffith Uni), Andrew Cox (Executive Officer NPA CEO) & Ian Cohen, MLC.  This is your opportunity to support a resolution that NPA and other environment groups will present to the government to demonstrate public concern for increased development in national parks.

WHEN: Thursday 26th February, 6.30-8.30pm
WHERE: Footbridge Theatre, Parramatta Rd, Sydney University

Commercialism of National Parks is not needed! People from all walks of life and all socio-economic backgrounds can currently enjoy the wonderful Australian environment by camping in the parks. A so called ‘eco-resort’ is a hotel resort by another name. Hotel resorts by definition have a larger building footprint, consume more resources and take over more habitat than camp grounds. And they require more bitumen on which to deliver their wealthy, ‘eco-conscious’ lovers of creature comforts to their destination.
